We've all heard the saying "everything's bigger in Texas." Well, the Rangers sure live up to that year after year when they hold their annual Triple Play charity event.
This was my and Matt's third year of attending the event, and this year was bigger than we've ever seen it! We began the night with some "Mingling" amongst guests and a few minutes of scouting out what we were interested in bidding on as part of the silent auction. There was everything from autographed baseballs to autographed album covers and records from the Beatles. There was fancy jewelry from a boutique nearby to guitars and CDs signed by various music artists. I'm always amazed at how much cool stuff they can fit in one room!
After browsing, it was time to start the show! They announced the team, we ate a yummy meal, and the live auction began! They auctioned off several trips, Including trips to join the Rangers on the road-team plane ride and all! After the auction, some of the Rangers players participated in games up on stage. They had their annual "Fielders Feud" where outfielders and infielders go head to head for bragging rights. And they also included some pitchers in a "Minute to Win it" type game that turned out to be pretty funny stuff.
The night was a huge success and this is the best part: All of the money raised that night goes towards the "Texas Rangers Foundation" which is involved with various projects to help kids in the DFW area and......drum roll please.....they raised about $540,000!!!!!!! Yes, I was completely amazed too! How awesome is that?!? But, we already knew....everything's bigger in Texas!
Hi, Meghan! This site is so interesting to me. Recently (well...one year ago) I married a State Trooper. He is the biggest Rangers fan I have ever met - even though we live 3 hours away, we goes to as many games as he can go to on his days off. We also try to attend spring training to support the team.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, while learning about being a Trooper's wife, all I can think about now is wives who's husbands also have professions that might take the "front burner", so to speak (even though yours is in a totally different way). I stumbled across this site, and it is fun to see first-person perspectives.
Thanks for being open and sharing! I love the team, I love baseball, and I am so proud of the season :) Good luck with everything! - Regan Bass
