Wife to Jake Brigham

Our story, of how we met, goes way back to before we were even born! Our parents used to be best friends. Jake's mom's first husband, was my dad's first business partner.

Jake's mom, along with mine, could not have children. They both adopted babies a few years apart. Ryan was my brother, and Bart was Jake's. The doctor said it would be impossible for both of them to get pregnant.

After trying for 15 years, my mom stood up at the mother's day service and was prayed for. Within a few weeks following the prayer service, she discovered she was pregnant with me. After many years of losing touch with Robin Brigham (Jake's mom) my mom ran into her in the parking lot of Albertsons. Both moms got out of their cars, to see that they were both carrying answers to prayer. Robin was 8 months pregnant with Jake and my mom was 6 1/2 months pregnant with me!! They both hugged, belly to belly, crying.

Strangely, that was the first time Jake and I met!

Even though Jake and I only lived 5 miles apart our entire lives, we never met! Nineteen years later, Jake wrote me on facebook. He asked, "Is your dad's name,Wyatt?" I said "Yeah why?" Not having any idea who this guy was, and how he knew my dad's name! He began to explain to me that he had been searching for me for months on facebook. My name kept coming to his mind and he wanted to meet me. We talked following that first email daily, for a month and half constantly. There was something so special about him. He made me laugh, and we couldn't get enough conversation each time we talked.

He arranged to fly down to meet me on my 20th birthday. I wondered would we have chemistry? Would we feel the same excitement in our hearts after meeting in person? Well... as the story goes.. Yes, there was chemistry!!! AND.. yes that first meeting changed both of our lives forever! It was love at first sight! We realized that God had made us for each other.

We continued a long distance relationship. This was complicated, due to Jake's long hard schedule of baseball, and my college schedule. Regardless of these challenges, our relationship grew stronger, and we both were committed, knowing that we are perfect for each other, and it would only make us stronger!

Saying that, Jake proposed to me the following year on my 21st birthday! We knew we were going to spend the rest of our lives together, and didn't want to be apart any longer than we had to! I knew in my heart I needed to finish up my degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design. We decided to push the wedding back an additional year, and do long distance for another season. This was such a hard decision for us having to be apart for another season, but it was correct for our situation especially being in the minors, and me still being in school.

I was so excited for 2010 season to come to an end knowing that would be the LAST season Jake and I would ever have to do long distance again! We got married on October 17, 2010, and I have graduated. Many of you reading this know all that we have on our minds right now, getting prepared for this season. Starting to prepare is very hard, since I don’t know what to expect yet.

Although, I understand the lifestyle, games every single night, long days at the field, and then eating dinner at 11 p.m every night. I’ll be waking up doing the same exact thing the next day. It is very different when you are living it on a daily basis for 7 months instead of visiting for 2 week periods at a time. I am so thankful that I no longer have to be apart from Jake, and I get to be with him wherever God plans for him to play in the years ahead. I know as long as we trust in Him, we can make it through anything!

  1. Wow, such a wonderful story about your mothers. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and within Gods plan for our lives. There's no doubt that this accidental meeting was all part of the plan.
