Wife to Royce Ring
It seemed simple enough, a quick trip up to two games in Syracuse which is only 2 hours north of us.
My husband Royce, his roommate Zack, our 5 month old daughter Kaylyn, and I all piled into our car and headed north the morning of the first game. We had a great drive, Kaylyn slept the whole way!
We arrived with enough time to get some lunch and check into the hotel. Then at about 3:00 the guys left for the field. Perfect, Kaylyn and I would take a nap before game time. The game was great, besides being a bit hot and humid we had fun hanging out with the other wives. Our team won-Day 1 of the road trip was a success!
Day two started out great. We had a nice breakfast as a family and went for a walk before Royce had to leave for the field. Well as we all know when the guys have to leave for the field we also have to check out of the hotel within a reasonable amount of time. I try to push that time as long as I possibly can because let's face it, what else am I going to do?
Well that game was a 7:00 game-really!?! Why does the league play late games on get away days? So Kaylyn and I packed up the car and checked out of the hotel at 3:30-ok now what to do for 3 1/2 hours with a 5 month old baby in tow?
I know the mall!
I feel like I've been to every mall in America.
I thought it would be easy enough to walk around, I could shop and Kaylyn would sleep. She had other plans. Kaylyn wanted no part of being in the stroller. I ended up pushing her and the stroller around. All I wanted was to sit down so we went to a movie. The only movie showing at that time was not kid friendly, but at that point I didn't care. We were both hot and tired and a comfy chair and some air conditioning sounded great. Fortunately, Kaylyn settled down and fell asleep during the movie so I did get a break.
Ok mall trip over off to the game! I thought perfect only a couple more hours and Daddy can help out. Well...in the third inning a gigantic rain storm blew in and out came the tarps on the field. Awesome! Rain delay! It was so sticky and hot out, no family room to sit in, and a 5 month old to entertain. Luckily the rain didn't stick around too long and the game began about an hour later. Royce pitched the last inning and got the save which made for a great ending to our crazy day! Oh the life of a baseball wife!
